Kinandafest 7 Infographic

2 official photographers took,

806 photographs..this is including the

18 #hemediswag ones;

of 553 people watching a fun mix of performances that included

1 band made up of,

4 guys,

1 of whom played the Violin! and

1 poet in a blue dress....

They also ate,

33 sausages

40 plates of fries, 20 pieces of chicken

and still had room to drink

12 vanilla milk shakes

100 coffees 15 lemonades and 186 sodas....

We bought 2 newspapers to check on Kenya Power's notices, but though there were none

5 power blackouts occured but we had

2 generators

that saved the day!

30 pairs of earings,

10 chillimango tshirts,

4 bracelets found new owners as well as

5 very cool white kinanda tshirts by worn by #teamkinanda.....

1 Hugh Masekela print from this collection was bought by

The Nairobi Kinanda Arts Festival is a monthly Arts extravaganza of music, poetry, visual art, creative writing, spoken word, film and street art..offerings. All this happening over a single weekend, the last Sunday Afternoon, every month.

The May Edition of the Nairobi Kinanda Arts Festival (#kinandafest5) falls on the 29th May 2011; in this edition we will have the usual bricolage of great music, spoken word from two critically acclaimed poets i.e Adelle and Rigga, all these adding to the carnival atmosphere that is the Nairobi Kinanda Arts Festival. We have added the GALLERY: an exciting addition to this month's and future editions of the festival, whereby we will be inviting two of the East Africa's Visual finest visual artists to showcase their work. Kinandafest5 will have the honor of hosting acclaimed photographers : Mutua Matheka (@truthslinger) and Steve Kitoto (@stevekitos)

Kinanda Fest 4- 17th April 2011

After the 3 week break we are back with the April Edition of the Nairobi Kinanda Arts Festival.

The April Edition of the Nairobi Kinanda Arts Festival falls on the 17th (3rd Sunday) because we know that you all will be spending the long Easter weekend away from Nairobi; we will however revert to the 4th sunday of every month from May.

KinandaFest4 is billed to be bigger better with a great mix of industry veterans and also new talent that is very good. Come enjoy great

FENA

FENA (Fena Gitu), Singer/ Songwriter. Age 20 (turning 21 in two weeks...so i guess am 21). Unsigned. Won a French singing competition at Alliance Francaise in 2008, winning an all-expense paid trip to Paris. Sang backup vocals for Muthoni Drummerqueen and DELA in 2009. Pursued solo music career towards the end of 2009, focusing on live performances. Started out at Open Mic hosted by Adelle, developing a fan base, Among others, she has performed at Blankets and Wine September Edition (2010), A..S.A.P Hosted by Kaz October Edition (2010), FENA Unplugged hosted by Blackstar Entertainment (Dec 2010). Fena has just released her first single

ATEMI

Atemi Oyungu is one of East Africa’s finest neo-soul vocalists. She began singing aged 10, and made her mark in the music scene with the all-girl group, Intu. In 2003 Atemi joined Kenyan sensation, Eric Wanaina, as vocal harmony provider for his band. Together with Eric and The Mapinduzi Band she performed in Zimbabwe, Ghana, Germany, Festival Mundial and The North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, Big Brother Africa in South Africa, and even at Sauti za Busara 2008. She played a major role in Wainaina's musical production, Luanda, and later in Kenya's biggest theatre production yet, Mo Faya. Atemi has been hosting an all-Africa TV show, Africa Rising, since 2009.

An accidental meeting with critically acclaimed music songwriter/producer, Tim "ennovator" Rimbui, led to the recording and release her of first single Happy, in 2004, she went on to launch her debut album, Hatimaye meaning ‘finally’ in 2008. She is currently working on her second solo album, to be released later in 2011. A mix of neo-soul and afro-fusion, Atemi’s sound has been described as that of “Miriam Makeba meeting Jill Scott.”
This year, Atemi performed on at Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar, backed by the Ma3 Band.

Kinanda Fest 3- 27/3/2011

Hey, we are back after well break. KinandaFest now a monthly event happening every last SUNDAY of the MONTH.(mark this in your calendars)

Ricky Nanjero -A superb bass player who has played with over 30 well known bands and musicians in Kenya, Ricky just completed his first solo album, sample it here

Ngwatilo Mawiyo: Ngwatilo is an exceptional poet writer, singer and all round "she..is..good people". Check out more about her here

Ueta: Arguably one of the best ( if not the best Rock Band) out of Nairobi...do not take our word for it; listen to them here

Ma3: Ma3(pronounced Maa-Three) is a quirky fun loving 6 piece Afrop Pop Band. Recently performed at Sauti Za Busara Fest. Find out more about Ma3 here.and also over here and see them in action here. You can also listen to them here

Jasmine: ,Jasmine meaning gift from God and an acronym representing the first names of the group.
This vocal group comprises of multi-talented young men:

Made up of 8 members: Justin Mutua,Jack Lenox, Allan Wanjohi,Stephen Maina, Machel Onyango, Emmanuel Muuo, Noel Ngoloma and Ebenezer Omondi.

These eight individuals met in high school as friends before they noticed that they all shared a passion for music and began the group in 2006.

Within the group,some members have been gifted with the ability to play other musical instruments with various artists and bands in Nairobi.

They seek to bring positive change using their music as a tool to pass a message of hope to their immediate surrounding and the world as a whole.

Kinanda Fest 2 - 20/10/2010

The KinandaFest – 2 was held on 20^th October 2010 and for the sheer fun and irreverence of it all; we dubbed it “Shukas n Juice” …little did we know what a kerfuffle that would cause.

Kifaru Gardens was transformed into almost magical place as the audience was treated to great poetry from Ngwalitio Mawiyo, Checkmate, Wamathai, Namatsi Lukoye, Mugambi Nthiga, Danice Kingori and Wanjiku.

Atemi, Eric Wainaina, Nina Ogot, Ma3, were some of the great musicians that kept the great crowd that turned up on this sleepy Kenyatta Day (apparently that name was changed in the new constitution…to ~~Founders..~~.Mashujaa Day) afternoon and kept them on their feet.

KinandaFest – 2 marked the entry of poetry into our regular programming; it is something we intend to keep going at the festival; having recognized the power and passion with which a new young generation of Kenyan writers have embraced this art form
